Short Description

As a Program Aide, you will be responsible for providing educational, relational, and social experiences for infants, toddlers, and/or preschool-aged children to foster growth and development in all developmental domains. You may be assigned to various classrooms, centers, bus routes, cafeterias, kitchens, assist with daily classroom management, and other duties as needed to support program operations. You are a frontline representative of Save the Children, ensuring the safety and security of children and families, and adhering to the agency's core values of Accountability, Ambition, Collaboration, Creativity, and Integrity.

Summary

Program Aides are generalists responsible for fostering growth and development in children through various educational and social activities. Reporting to the Education and Inclusion Manager or Center Director, you may need to travel to different program sites and/or conduct home visits. Your duties include classroom assistance, janitorial support, kitchen assistance, and other general responsibilities aligned with program needs. As a representative of Save the Children, you must ensure child safety, prevent abuse, and promote safeguarding policies.

Essential Duties

  1. Apply clear practices and procedures in daily tasks.
  2. Organize and manage time effectively.
  3. Keep management informed of important issues.
  4. Build effective relationships with children, families, and colleagues.
  5. Follow oral and written instructions accurately.

Classroom Assistance

  • Support classroom staff in activities and responsibilities.
  • Assist teachers during events and daily tasks.
  • Serve as a substitute in the absence of classroom teachers.

Janitorial Assistance

  • Provide custodial support such as cleaning and building maintenance.
  • May serve as a custodian periodically.

Kitchen Assistance

  • Perform routine food service duties, including meal prep and cleaning.
  • Assist with food preparation for children with special needs.
  • Ensure hygiene and sanitation standards are met.

Other Duties

  • May serve as a Bus Monitor.
  • Attend workshops, meetings, and community events.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to policies.
  • Foster positive community relationships.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Certification as required by regulations.
  • Within 90 days, obtain first aid and pediatric CPR certification.
  • Knowledge of working with young children.
  • Proficiency in English.
  • Ability to relate sensitively with children and communicate effectively with families.
  • Ability to follow directions and maintain confidentiality.
  • Experience working with children with disabilities.

Additional Qualifications

  • Physical ability to perform duties, including lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Background checks and health requirements.
  • Valid driver's license if operating a vehicle.
  • Preference for current or former Head Start/Early Head Start parents.

Compensation

Starting at $15/hour, with variation based on experience and qualifications.
